Fees

Fees are governed by Wisconsin Statutes and are uniform throughout the State.

All checks should be made payable to Chippewa County Register of Deeds
Out-of-state personal checks are not accepted
Credit Cards are accepted for certified copies of Vital Record Certificates and copies of Real Estate documents in our office. They are not accepted for Recording at this time.
Our policy is that all fees be prepaid before any documents are recorded or requests fulfilled.

Copies of Recorded Documents

$2 for the first page
$1 each additional page
An additional $1 is charged for a certified copy

Document Recording Fees

As of January 1, 2025, we require self-addressed stamped return envelopes for all paper documents received for recording. If you would like to receive your recorded document(s) back electronically for free, please complete the Swift Agreement (PDF) to include with your document(s). Thank you!

Certified Survey Maps, Deeds, Federal Tax Liens, Lis Pendens, Mortgages, Termination of Decedents Property Interest, and Miscellaneous Documents entitled to be recorded in the Register of Deeds Office cost:

$30, regardless of the number of pages.

Note: Maximum size sheet: 8 ½ inches by 14 inches. One side of a sheet constitutes a page, and any printing on the backside is considered another page.

Plat Recording Fees

Cemetery Plats - $50 per plat
Condominium Plats - $50 per plat and $100 review fee per County ordinance
Subdivisions - $50 per plat
Transportation Plat - $25 per plat

Real Estate Transfer Fees

An electronic Transfer Receipt and fee or exemption number is required for all conveyances except when exemptions 1 or 10M apply.
Current rate of fee is $3 per $1000 of value, rounded off to the next higher hundred.
Complete an Real Estate Transfer Return (eRETR) online.

Uniform Commercial Code

UCC financing statement forms that are realty-related must be recorded with the Register of Deeds. The real estate box on the form must be checked, or the form will be rejected.

All other financing statements are filed with the Department of Financial Institutions. A search can be performed on the DFI Website.

Recording fees are $30 per document.

Birth Certificate - $20
Death Certificate - $20
Declaration of Domestic Partnership - $20
Divorce Certificate - $20
Marriage Certificate - $20
Termination of Domestic Partnership - $20

Plus $3 for each additional copy ordered at the same time as the first copy.
