Youth Justice Services

The Chippewa County Youth Justice Unit is dedicated to addressing issues related to youth justice by providing responsive, evidence-based services. The unit prioritizes the rehabilitation of young offenders through programming designed to protect the community, promote accountability, and equip youth with the skills needed to live responsibly and productively.

Our team plays a critical role in ensuring justice-involved youth are held accountable for their actions while also being supported in developing the competencies necessary for long-term success. Through a commitment to evidence-based practices, we aim to reduce recidivism, strengthen families, and enhance community safety.

Mission

We strive to ensure that every youth has the opportunity to grow into a safe, responsible, and contributing member of society.

Who We Serve

The Youth Justice Unit serves youth in Chippewa County who become involved in the justice system. We provide guidance, structure, and individualized support based on each young person's needs. Our work is rooted in strong partnerships with families, schools, law enforcement, treatment providers, and community organizations.

Support Services

Individualized Case Management

Services are tailored to each youth's risk level and unique needs, ensuring a personalized and effective response.

Restorative Practices

Youth are encouraged to take accountability and actively repair the harm done to victims and the community.

Skill-Building Opportunities

Programming includes education, moral reasoning, and life skills development. Group offerings include:

  • Aggression Replacement Training (ART)
  • Girls Moving On (GMO)
  • Third Millennium
  • Prime for Life

Intervention Services

We address underlying issues such as substance use, trauma, and mental health. All staff are trained in the Carey Guides and Brief Intervention Tools (BITS), which target criminogenic needs and help youth build prosocial skills.

Cross-System Collaboration

We work closely with law enforcement, schools, mental health and substance use providers, and community organizations to deliver coordinated, holistic support.

Our Approach

We believe that accountability and support go hand in hand. By balancing structure with compassion, we help youth make healthier choices while recognizing their strengths and potential. Every young person is unique, and our interventions are designed to meet them where they are - encouraging responsibility, growth, and opportunity.
