The Chippewa County Clerk's office issues hunting and fishing licenses, permits, and stamps. We also process snowmobile and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) registrations and sell non-resident snowmobile and ATV trail passes.
Boat Registrations
Currently, our office can only process registration renewals for boats. New boat registrations and transfers must be handled at a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office or through the mail.
ATV Registrations
The County's Clerk's office is only able to process ATV registration renewals at this time. New registrations and transfers must be done at a DNR office or through the mail.
Effective March 10, 2015, all ATV/UTV registrations need to be accompanied by a registration form. The form can be filled out in person or completed online, printed, and brought to the DNR office. Access the Fillable Registration Form (PDF).
Effective July 1, 2012, all ATVs and UTVs are required to have a rear license plate, in addition to side decals. Also, if you renew an ATV registration after the expiration date, beginning July 1, 2012, there is an additional $5 late fee, unless you are transferring the registration.
Snowmobile Registrations / Trail Passes
The County Clerk's office is only able to process registration renewals for snowmobiles at this time. New registrations and transfers must be done at a DNR office or through the mail.
Effective July 1, 2015, snowmobile registration will cost $30 and last for three years. In addition to the required registration, all snowmobiles operating on trails and corridors will need to display a Wisconsin Trail Pass. Resident trail passes are $30 per year, and non-resident passes are $50 per year. Non-resident 5-day trail passes are also available for $20. If you are a member of the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs, you may obtain a resident snowmobile trail pass at a reduced rate of $10 by visiting the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs (AWSC) website. If you are purchasing a resident trail pass, you will need to provide the Wisconsin registration number for your machine. Please note: when purchasing a resident trail pass, the pass is mailed from the DNR on the first business day following purchase. You may use your receipt for up to 10 days, until you receive the physical pass in the mail. Non-resident Annual and Non-resident 5-day trail passes are good from the date of purchase.
