Background
In April of 2014, the Wisconsin legislature enacted ACT 377. This legislation classifies agricultural equipment into categories and provides length and weight limits accordingly. It also allowed local units of government an opportunity to choose from several options to modify the requirements of ACT 377, provided this occurred before January 15, 2015. On November 12, 2014, the Chippewa County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to "opt in" to ACT 377.

What This Means
Operators of Implements of Husbandry (IoHs) and Agricultural Commercial Vehicles (AgCMVs) are now required to operate below the weight and length limits of ACT 377. This weight chart (PDF) lists the maximum allowable weight limits for IoHs and AgCMVs. In addition to ACT 377, the resolution adopted by Chippewa County requires all IoHs to operate below 23,000 pounds per axle. Operators of Category B IoHs that wish to exceed the 23,000 pounds per axle maximum weight must obtain a No-Fee Permit (PDF) from the Chippewa County Highway Department to operate on County Highways.
Chippewa County Highway also has Year-Round Road Weight Limits on certain highways, Seasonal Weight Limit Postings during the Spring, and load-posted bridges. All of these take priority over ACT 377 weight limits.
