The Safety Action Plan
Chippewa County was awarded funding by the USDOT to develop a Safety Action Plan to identify the county's transportation safety needs and prepare a comprehensive strategy to prevent traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes along the County's transportation network. The study will include a roadway evaluation and recommendations to improve safety for all users of the County's network, including people who drive, walk, bike, or roll.
Study Goals
- Determine a commitment to eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries along the County's roadway network
- Identify existing roadway safety issues
- Evaluate and prioritize potential safety improvements
- Engage the community using inclusive and representative processes targeting underserved communities
- Identify opportunities to update existing County policies and plans to incorporate the goals and objectives of the Safety Action Plan
- Identify potential funding sources
How You Can Help
The analysis doesn't tell the whole story. To develop a comprehensive Safety Action Plan, we also need to hear from you! Do you feel safe when traveling around the county? Do you have a challenge or suggestion on how to make the roads safer? Add your safety concerns to the comment map. We are especially interested in locations along County Roads.

How Your Input Will Be Used
Your input, along with crash data, will help the project team understand locations that are unsafe for people walking, biking, or driving, as well as identify potential safety projects for the County to consider.
SS4A
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) established the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program with $5 billion in appropriated funds in the United States over 5 years, 2022 to 2026. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. The SS4A supports the U.S. Department of Transportation's goal of zero roadway deaths.
