Posting Cash Bond (for Yourself, a Friend, or a Relative)

Posting a cash bond—whether for yourself, a friend, or a relative—comes with financial risk. Please read the following information carefully before proceeding.

Where to Post a Cash Bond

During Business Hours:

  • You may post a cash bond at your nearest law enforcement agency (not the Chippewa County Jail), or
  • At the Chippewa County Clerk of Courts Office

After Business Hours:

  • You may post a cash bond at your nearest law enforcement agency, or
  • At the Chippewa County Jail.

Accepted Payment Methods

At the Clerk of Courts Office:

  • Cash
  • Money Order
  • Certified Bank Check

At Law Enforcement Agencies or the Jail:

  • Cash
  • Money Order
  • Certified Bank Check
  • Credit Card

Understanding the Risks

Posting a cash bond does not guarantee you will get all—or any—of your money back.
The Court may apply the bond money toward:

  • Court costs, fines, or forfeitures
  • Restitution (if ordered)

If the defendant:

  • Fails to appear in court,
  • Violates any bond condition, or
  • Commits a new offense,

the Court may forfeit the cash bond. The defendant and the person who posted the bond will receive written notice and have 30 days to respond in person or in writing.

If a defendant misses a court date, the Court may order immediate forfeiture of the cash bond without further notice.
