Due to funding limitations, we are unable to enroll anyone new to Meals on Wheels Chippewa County until January 2026. Referrals can still be made, but we will wait until January 2026 to start working through the wait list.
What Happened with Funding?
This program relies on donations and volunteers to sustain the program. All donations go 100% back to the program directly. No one is denied due to inability to donate, but we ask that all participants give a donation within their means by mailing them a monthly statement. Unfortunately, the donations received this year just aren't enough to continue enrollments for the remainder of 2025.
Even with the increase to our suggested meal donation back in August 2025 to $5.50 per meal, we haven’t seen an increase in the level of donations needed to carry the program through. On top of that, our Older Americans Act funding for nutrition programs decreased for 2025, the county levy funds set aside for Meals on Wheels have been fully used, and the American Rescue plan Act (ARPA) funds that once filled the gap are no longer available.
What Can Be Done?
Donations are always welcome even if you're not getting a meal in exchange. This is a great way to "give back" to a program that supports our elderly community right here in Chippewa County. We accept donations online, in person, or a mailed check. We are thankful to our community partners and organizations that choose to support the program!
