ATV, UTV, & Snowmobiles

Photos of UTV, ATVs and Snowmobile

All-terrain vehicle (ATV), utility terrain vehicle (UTV), and snowmobile riding are just some of the many ways to enjoy the great outdoors of Wisconsin and Chippewa County. Along with the privilege of enjoying these activities comes the responsibility of making sure vehicles are being operated safely, responsibly, and within the approved trail and route systems.

Chippewa County Ordinance for Designating & Regulating ATV & UTV Routes

Section 58-39 of the Chippewa County Code of Ordinances (PDF)

ATV & UTV Riding

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that all-terrain vehicle and utility terrain vehicle riding is a growing sport in Wisconsin. For more information on registration, regulations, and safety, please visit Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources ATV/UTV Riding in Wisconsin.

The Chippewa County Forest hosts numerous recreational trails that are well-used. The Chippewa County Forest ATV/UTV Trail and associated routes are typically open from May 1st to the Monday prior to Wisconsin's traditional deer gun season of each year. No off-trail operation is allowed, and violators will be prosecuted. There are two ATV organizations in Chippewa County that maintain Facebook pages that may contain more details: Chippewa Valley ATV Council and Chippewa Valley ATVers.

To report suspicious or illegal activities along trails and routes, please call the Chippewa County Sheriff's Dispatch at 715-726-7701. If possible, please record the license plate number of the suspect ATV or UTV.

Wisconsin is the birthplace of snowmobiling and continues to offer some of the best snowmobiling opportunities. For more information on registration, regulations, and safety, please visit Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Snowmobiling in Wisconsin.
